What Is S.E.O. ?

Here is the definition for you:

SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” It is the process of getting traffic from the “free,” “organic,” “editorial” or “natural” search results on search engines”

What Are The Basics Of SEO?

If you are a marketer or business owner, you will no doubt have heard people telling you how important SEO is for your business.  They may not have told you however, how to do SEO. Lets have a look at the basics of SEO.

Basics Of SEO Writing.

There are a few basics of SEO writing you need to understand to optimise you site and give it the best chance of appearing in the search engines. Let’s have a look at them now.

SEO is the process of improving your web site that helps search engines like Google understand what your site is about and therefore rank it more successfully in the search engine listings.

For example, your web site might be called “How to care for your Kite”.  The search engines may mistake your web site for things you would fly on a windy day on a piece of string as opposed to the bird of prey.  If it was listed under the wrong category you would not get the people interested in what your site is really about.

How To Optimize Your Web Site For Search Engines?

The sites you see on the first few pages of search engines did not get there by accident or the order in which they were submitted. They are based on what the search engines think would be most applicable to the query that was entered which are based on the keywords used in your site. They look at the keywords that you entered in the search engine query, scour all the keywords in the sites on its database and then give you a list of the most relevant sites for those keywords.

SEO Targets High Quality Traffic.

A majority of people spend all their time reaching out to people trying to convince them that they to visit their website. This can lead to you being called a spammer.  You have no doubt seen these spammers on most websites. It is annoying and can lower the rank of your site. SEO on the other hand ensures that only people who are interested in your website will visit it.  It is no good if you get uninterested visitors.  They will just quickly leave which will increase your “bounce” rate.

When people are researching something, people are much more responsive if it was them who found your site. This makes them more likely to have a look around your site and see what it has to offer. That is why you need to make it easy to navigate around your site and make it easy to find things.

This also gives you the perfect opportunity to interact with the customer and find out what they are looking for.  You want to be like a helpful assistant in a shop. This is yet another of the basics of SEO.

How do you make sure that your web site appears on the search engines and in the right place?

That is done by Search Engine Optimisation or S.E.O for short.

How To Optimise Your Web Pages And Posts.

You might already have some pages and posts on your blog but don’t worry, you can still optimise the SEO for those pages and posts. It is better to do it before you actually publish them but it is not the end of the world if you have not done it. Just remember to follow these basics for seo writing.

Make a note of the basics of SEO given below and use them in your posts.

Step 1 Choose One Of Your Existing Posts.

The system is the same for posts that are not already published. Now look at what your post is about. Think about what is is trying to tell the reader. That maybe to give information, solve a problem, make comparisons etc. Now think about what questions a person might put into a search engine to find answers to those questions. If you are unsure about what keyword to use try a website such as Ubersuggests. It comes up with a wide variety of keywords you could use for your post. It also shows the number of searches the keyword gets each month as well as how difficult it is to rank for that keyword.

Let us look a bit more closely at this information. If the keyword search is above 100,000 then web sites with a higher domain authority will use that keyword.  That means that the chances of YOUR web site appearing on the first few pages of the search engines is very doubtful.  Therefore it is pretty pointless choosing this keyword.  In the case of SEO Basics which is the first part of the title of this post, the search volume is about 1,600 and the paid  difficulty is 16.  This gives me a better chance of appearing on the first few pages of the search engines. Remember, you are a small fish in a big sea.  1,600 views a month equates to about 50 views a day. Not bad when you think you are not actually paying for these free views.

2) Why You Should Add More Keywords?

Adding more keywords will get you even more views of your post. The best keywords to choose are those recommended by Ubersuggests Enter the keyword word of your post into Ubersuggest and the click on keyword ideas on the left hand side  of the screen.

This will show you alternative keywords and the volume of traffic they get. You can then use a few of these keywords to get more traffic.   You should insert them throughout your post making the words appear natural and in context. They should be inserted about once every 200 words. I would recommend using about 5 keywords.

You might be thinking “If keywords get you traffic shouldn’t I insert as many as possible?“. That is a great question, but the search engines have caught on to this tactic and they will punish you for it.  They will reduce your website’s ranking.  It is a tactic know as “Keyword Stuffing“. 3) More Ways To Optimize Your Blog With SEO Basics.

When you are optimize your blog, make sure you include your keywords in the following areas:

  • The title of your blog. Make sure that you include the title with the H1 tag.

You can access this by clicking on the drop down menu next to paragraph and selecting the Heading 1 H1 tag.  All the tags are accessed in this way.  You should only have one H1 tag. As you write your blog post you should insert more tags. The H2 tag should be used for the first headline for your post. Next comes the H3 tag. You can use these for every new section of your post. If you want to add further sections within a sections within a section then use H4, H5 etc tags. You can add as many H3, H4 … tags within your blog post.

  • Content. Add Keywords naturally throughout your posts but don’t use the keywords too often.
  • Remember to split your content into sections using the appropriate hashtags.

How To Improve Your Reader’s Experience?

You can improve the readers experience on your page by doing the following things which will improve the SEO.

  • You can shrink any images that will help speed up up the load time of the page.
  • Make sure that your spelling and grammar are correct.
  • Make sure you don’t have too many pop ups on your page.  They can distract the readers attention.
  • After you have finished writing your blog, wait for at least an hour. This will help you clear out the thoughts that are in your head. Then do a preview of the page. Click on all the links to make sure they are working O.K. It is easy to put in links on your draught page and when you come to check your page the links might not work or they may not be visible.  These types of errors will lower your SEO score.
  • Where possible link to other pages within your web site if it has relevant content that is applicable to your post. Open the link in a new tab so if there are any problems the reader will still have the page that the link came from. Internal links are also a great way to keep people on your site. The longer the stay on your site the greater your SEO score will be.
  • When you are sure your post is working properly then you can publish your blog post.
